Open Source Content Management - News & Articles
Others substitute words, add sentences, or combine two or more sources. This raises the question: "when should content be considered original and when - plagiarized?". Should the test for plagiarism be more stringent than the one applied by the Copyright Office? And what rights are implicitly granted by the material's genuine authors or publishers once they place the content on the Internet? Is the Web a public domain and, if yes, to what extent? These questions are not easily answered. Consider reports generated by users from a database. Are these reports copyrighted - and if so, by whom - by the database compiler or by the user who defined the parameters, without which the reports in question would have never been generated? What about "fair use" of text and works of art? In the USA, the backlash against digital content piracy and plagiarism has reached preposterous legal, litigious and technological nadirs. Plagiarism.org has developed a statistics-based technology (the "Document Source Analysis") which creates a "digital fingerprint" of every document in its database. Web crawlers are then unleashed to scour the Internet and find documents with the same fingerprint and a colour-coded report is generated. An instructor, teacher, or professor can then use the report to prove plagiarism and cheating. Piracy is often considered to be a form of viral marketing (even by software developers and publishers). The author's, publisher's, or software house's data are preserved intact in the cracked copy. Pirated copies of e-books often contribute to increased sales of the print versions. Crippled versions of software or pirated copies of software without its manuals, updates and support - often lead to the purchase of a licence. Not so with plagiarism. The identities of the author, editor, publisher and illustrator are deleted and replaced by the details of the plagiarist. And while piracy is discussed freely and fought vigorously - the discussion of plagiarism is still taboo and actively suppressed by image-conscious and endowment-weary academic institutions and media. It is an uphill struggle but plagiarism.org has taken the first resolute step. Developing Free Content... It's not really as bad as it sounds!08/22/05
by Edward B. Toupin
I hear many writers refute the idea of writing free content. While I agree,in the simplest terms, it is "something for nothing", the benefits of freecontent actually outweigh the down-side of writing for free. Is it reallyfor nothing?--- The Battle for Content ---The competition for content is fierce. Every Web site owner wants contentand hundreds of writers want their content visible on the Web. There are somany free Web sites that you can literally advertise your goods, services, and knowledge globally for years without spending a penny.Of course, there is a cost involved in writing free content---time.However, the cost in time units is only a fraction of the money that wouldotherwise be spent in getting the kind of coverage available by supportingcontent sites with free articles.--- What about my income producing articles? ---The idea is not to spend all day writing free content. Generally, onceyou've completed your articles for paying markets, take an idea and generateone free content article. I usually select a topic about which I cangenerate an article in a few hours. Don't spend more than two hours on thearticle over an entire day---use it as a gap-filler.The point is to be able to generate a short article that provides a generaloverview of your knowledge or work---don't dive too deep. If someone likesyour work or idea, let them come to you and pay you for a more, in-depthversion. Call it "testing the waters."--- Exercise Your Brain ---One of the benefits I've found to writing free content is in exercising mybrain. I get a chance to generate a short article about somethin

What Can Lots Of Content Do For Your Site?08/22/05
by: Matt Colyer
Today there are so many web sites on the web, but so few of them have good content and there are even fewer web sites that have large amounts of content. Why is the web like this? For one most webmasters are trying to make a quick buck and others don't know where to begin or are too lazy to do the work.
Content really is king! Why? because visitors will stay longer or will come back more often and they are more likely to buy from your business. Visitors know you are an expert in your site's topic because you write informative articles, which leads the visitor to trust your business more. And to your visitors it's all about trust because if they can't trust your business, how can they trust the product/service you sale or how can they even know that they will receive the product/service.
Most of the time before an Internet surfer buys a product they will search the web to get more information about it. Sometimes they are just looking to see how it really works or maybe they want to know more about a certain feature. If you write articles about your products, surfers are more likely to find your web site in the search engine and you may even steal a few sales from your competitor, which will result in more sales for you!
Having a site with great an

I've been fortunate enough to reap strong benefits from posting articles to web sites including my own, and leveraging the right keyword phrases to deliver the content. As you do the same (or post other people's articles) and the search engines index your pages, you'll see more and more traffic coming to your site via that content. And, as your pages "settle in" to their positions in the search engines results pages, your site will be 'maturing', and that concept can be worth lots of money to you.As your site matures, you'll most likely 'cement' your pages in the search engine results pages as long as you have your articles posted on the deeper sites and optimize your articles. One big drawback to posting other people's articles is that you can't optimize them. Once you are bringing in a consistent steady stream of targeted traffic in to your site from search engines, it is relatively easy to add links and new content that will bring new sales. It is sort of like having a big list. Don't get me wrong, the traffic will help you build your list...what I am referring to is having a foundation to easily test and try new affiliate programs because you already have targeted traffic coming in...all you need to do at that point is to find relative products with solid affiliate programs. It's so much fun when you understand this concept. For most newbies, they never get it till its too late. One last item with regards to a mature site...make sure that you cross link properly and use ssi's (server side includes) if at all possible. The links on your pages that are present everywhere on your site will boost the pages this links point to.DO all you can make your site mature as fast as possible. Your business will be better off. Enjoy the search engine traffic!
