Content Enterprise Management System - News & Articles

Edit the file with a text editor such as notepad and you will see that it is a simple table. HTML from free content Web sites can be simply pasted into the file at the places indicated by the comments.
Once you understand the basics of your container, you can do searches on the Web for "free content" and create different HTML files with different content. You can use this yourself or send the HTML file to friends as an email attachment and they can also use what you found from their computer, no need for a Web site.
Another approach is to get an information aggregator that supports HTML fragments. The HTML fragments can be placed on personal portal pages along with other content such as RSS feeds. See http://www.sugarloafsw.com/ia/ia.html for more on the use of information aggregators to allow individuals to use free content.
The final approach is to take the plunge and get your own Web site. There are several free options available, such as GeoCities (http://geocities.yahoo.com). You can add your modified Free Content Container to your site along with your other content.

Cool ad, got his/her attention, so he/she stops by on the way home. On the outside everything looks nice, meets expectations, so the visitor walks in, looking for tonight's sandwich goodies. Once inside it only takes a few seconds to notice the dust on the shelves, the dirty footprints, the unidentifiable smudges on the glass counter-fronts. No matter how good the food smells, if the counterperson has dirty hands or there are papers littering the floor, how many people are going to feel comfortable reaching over a crumb-covered counter to pay for their dinner? That may sound like a silly comparison to Web content, but really, it's not so far off. The principle stands: clean, neat, appealing content builds comfort and trust. Sloppy, haphazard or distracting content repels, and breaks down credibility. And the principle is very easy to apply to all Web content. Just remember the acronym, "Get It All"G- et another set of eyes to take an objective lookE- xtra attention to spelling lends credibilityT- ell your message with exciting words; don't rely on graphicsI- talics, bold and all caps are rough on the eyes, use sparinglyT- ake the time to read the entire content... backwards (you'll be amazed at what you'll notice this way)A- lways do one last look-see after it's finished
L- et all content sit for at least a full day before a final edit
L- ose the guesswork--keep a dictionary and grammar/editing reference at your fingertips, and use them often.Whether your content is a one-line ad or five-page report, taking that little extra time and effort will improve your site, build customer confidence and add respectability. Saving time now and risking poor content quality can end up costing you more later. After all, the object is to get and keep customers at your site; to keep them reading. How long would you have kept reading this article if it had all been written like that first paragraph?About The Author

Click here for info on a BlueLine lure. Click here for the FlatFish."An Aside Each of the above links is to a page picturing the lure indetail. There's a link below to a page that shows you how tomake one. And, of course, another that lets you buy one fromBill. And There's More. In a PS, Bill added, "Just now, the week's forecast looksawfully good. Click here for the latest." Take this link, andyou have a long term forecast for the weather at Triangle lake. And More Triangle is not the only lake Bill follows. And he has thiskind of info on all of them. And about the local streams. Further, he'll be happy to sell you a great fishing rod, wadingboots, cooking gear, even camping stuff.About That Fellow In New York James Bartell faces yet another major business crisis. Butreading Bill's newsletter gives him a thought. He calls to hissecretary, "Will you get Joe and Pete in here, please?" Grabbingfor the phone, he mumbles, "If they can't handle this, I'll findsomebody who can." Half way through the sentence, the phone isringing at Travel Desk.Bartell Is Not Alone Many people who bust it day in and day out are quite willing, now and then, to cut loose for a few days. Bill offers one greatway to do it. He gets a commission from Travel Desk. And fromthe local lodges he refers to. If he chooses to do so, he is in a great position to buy a lodge, thus extending his onlinebusiness offline. If he targets upscale fisherman like Bartell, such a move could be enormously profitable.End Tale Okay, so that's just a yarn. And hey, likely someone alreadyhas something like it going. But it's bound to be local, elseone can't keep up. Find a local area *not* being covered, oneeasy to get to, and go for it. The task is simpler if youalready know something of the area. But if you love fishing, you can have a lot of fun learning whatever you need.So Where's The Content? Measured in total words, there is very little content on thishypothetical site. But in the eyes of a devoted fisherman, it'sloaded with the stuff. Bill needs some good text content forsearch engine positioning, but that's another matter. What's Bill Really Selling? Will anybody visiting this site see it for what it really is? Have you figured it?What is readily available is great info that matters tofisherman. Behind this, Bill offers everything you need to getto a great fishing spot, catch your limit, and be comfortablewhile doing so. His visitors will not see this as a trick orcon. They may not even recognize the site is a selling tool. Products offered will be seen simply as an additional serviceBill provides.A Catch This is not the greatest example, for it's seasonal. You'dhave to do very well in order to take the rest of the year off. But it's a possibility. If you owned a lodge, you might pick up some off-season business from skiers and hunters. But I Don't Like Fishing Is that what I heard you say? If so, join the club. I don'teither. But the idea works in many areas and differing products. Competition is fierce in the travel business. But how about asite featuring weekend adventures for families or seniors orboth? House plans might work well with how-tos about remodelingand interior design.Home gardeners are a committed bunch. And there's lots ofpotential here for repeat business. Anything people love to dothat requires resources you can provide is a possible target. Each must be checked with care. Competition needs to beexamined in depth. And you must find a niche that sets you aboveor apart from all of it. But given a defined position and a goodbusiness plan, you have the basis for a successful onlinebusiness.Wrapping Up There are several errors in Bill's prose. Did you noticethem? If so, will they matter to a fellow who wants to catchsome fish? Or will he just grab his keys or the phone? About the AuthorBob McElwain Want to build a winning site? Improve one you alreadyhave? Simplify something that is complicated - How many times have you wanted to learn about something but didn't want to spend the time reading a complicated manual or article.Perform this service for your web site visitors by paraphrasing something into a one page snapshot of your subject matter. The key is to pick out the most important points or actions and present them simply for easy reading. You can use your web site to refer the visitors to the more complicated document and recommend they follow up and read the entire document.Class action lawsuits are great for this purpose. In my work as an IT Manager I occasionally get legal papers detailing the settlement of class action lawsuits that affect my industry. There is nothing more boring than reading the details of a class action lawsuit settlement. In most cases I am required to read and then follow up on the class action claims in a given lawsuit.I find that by pulling out the steps to claim a settlement and paraphrasing the cause and effect of the lawsuit in plain english I not only have quality revenue generating web site content but can provide a useful document for my customers that saves them time.Keep an eye on the news either locally or nationally.Any subject that that might need clarification or opinion is an opportunity for you to generate original content for your web site.Look for new keywords that spur ideas for additional web site content -When you don't know what to write about try putting in keywords related to subjects you know about or for which you already have web site content. Many keyword generator tools exist on the web and these typically spit our new and related keywords or phrases that might get those creative juices flowing again. Some such as the Overture bid tool will tell you the relative worth of the keywords. This will help you prioritize your ideas.Compare Something. This is my favorite.Take two choices and provide your web site visitors with additional information so they can choose between the subjects.I do this a lot with travel web sites especially resorts and hotels that are related. This works especially well if the two things you compare are owned by the same company and are not competing.Simply do the research to provide the differences and let your visitors decide which to choose from.Review Something - Now that I create web content as a business I review EVERYTHING.I also keep a camera in the car and any business that might be searched in a search engine I snap a picture and write a review. This has been especially satisfying when I can offer tips or criticism that

com, are the cyber equivalent of a law enforcement agency, acting after the fact to discover the culprits and uncover their misdeeds. This, they claim, is a first stage on the way to a plagiarism-free Internet-based academic community of both teachers and students, in which the educational potential of the Internet can be fully realized. The problem is especially severe in academia. Various surveys have discovered that a staggering 80%(!) of US students cheat and that at least 30% plagiarize written material. The Internet only exacerbated this problem. More than 200 cheat-sites have sprung up, with thousands of papers available on-line and tens of thousands of satisfied plagiarists the world over. Some of these hubs - like cheater.com, cheatweb or cheathouse.com - make no bones about their offerings. Many of them are located outside the USA (in Germany, or Asia) and at least one offers papers in a few languages, Hebrew included. The problem, though, is not limited to the ivory towers. E-zines plagiarize. The print media plagiarize. Individual journalists plagiarize, many with abandon. Even advertising agencies and financial institutions plagiarize. The amount of material out there is so overwhelming that the plagiarist develops a (fairly justified) sense of immunity. The temptation is irresistible, the rewards big and the pressures of modern life great. Some of the plagiarists are straightforward copiers. Others substitute words, add sentences, or combine two or more sources. This raises the question: "when should content be considered original and when - plagiarized?". Should the test for plagiarism be more stringent than the one applied by the Copyright Office? And what rights are implicitly granted by the material's genuine authors or publishers once they place the content on the Internet? Is the Web a public domain and, if yes, to what extent? These questions are not easily answered. Consider reports generated by users from a database. Are these reports copyrighted - and if so, by whom - by the database compiler or by the user who defined the parameters, without which the reports in question would have never been generated? What about "fair use" of text and works of art? In the USA, the backlash against digital content piracy and plagiarism has reached preposterous legal, litigious and technolo

Presentation Pitfalls: Top 10 Content Management Mistakes08/12/05
by Jeff Smith
Top 10 Content Management Mistakesby Melissa LewisHere, David Letterman style, are what I consider to be the Top 10 most common mistakes presenters make when organizing and preparing their content: 10) Not setting the stage. An introduction should be more than just "Hello. Today we'll be discussing _____." If you just jump into the content without setting up the presentation, it can get you off to a jumpy, disjointed start. An introduction should give the audience a sense of who you are, what you're there to do and what's in it for them to listen.9) Using ineffective notes. It's almost always wise to have some notes handy to make sure you don't forget anything important, but if your notes are hard to follow or are distracting for the audience, they defeat the purpose. Trying to read from a crowded page of word-for-word narrative is a killer because you look down and have trouble looking up for fear that you'll never find your place again. Disorganized papers or cards can be cumbersome and messy. Keep clear, concise key-word-or-key-phrase-only notes handy to simply to jog your memory, not serve as an unnecessary crutch.8) Using jargon or acronyms that leave the audience bewildered. When a listener hears a word or phrase he/she is not familiar with it causes what I call a "cerebral derailment". The listen

You could even (cheekily!) run acompetition to encourage subscribers to visit your site, andfind those inevitable bugs, before the rest of the web does!!===== Side Bar =====If you don't run a newsletter, this is one (of many) great reasonswhy you should! Listbot, Topica, e-circle are just a few servicesthat provide free, ad-supported, newsletters: - http://www.listbot.com - http://www.topica.com - http://www.ecircle-uk.com===== Side Bar ===== 2: TELL YOUR FRIENDS, FAMILY, ANYONETell friends, family and others who are (legitimately) in youraddress book. Make your e-mail personal, and friendly. And betterstill, just talk about how your site now benefits or involves them. That is, just discuss: * your new link to their site * your promotion of their affiliate program * their new article, now on your siteEven busy friends and family, need to be 'encouraged'! Always focuson benefits, but *get them* to visit! 3: TELL THE NEWSGROUPSTell the newsgroups about your new site, but only do this if youare a regular contributor. Simply announce your site - checkthat site announcements are allowed, first! - with a few goodreasons why members should visit! Better still, contribute to thenewsgroup, and simply leave your URL as part of your 'signature'.A great place to find suitable newsgroups is - http://www.deja.com/usenet/ (now http://groups.google.com) 4: WHAT ABOUT SEARCH ENGINES?DON'T just blast your new pages to all the search engines /directories! This may seem like spam to them, and your new pages(or even your whole site) may get banned. This is because somesearch engines need to be told about new pages, others don't. Anddirectories generally just like to know about the main page on yoursite (unless you've just added a lot of content on a completelydifferent theme).Search engine policies change regularly, so find out from others byvisiting a search engine forum, or asking someone you consider tobe an expert. An excellent place to find search engine advice ishttp://www.searchengineforums.com [HELP! and New Member Forum].(So what did *I* do? I just submitted one new page to the majorsearch engines. This page has links to all of the other new pages, too, so the search engine spiders should eventually index all of mynew content. I visited searchengineforums first, obviously!) 5: DON'T FORGET PAY-PER-CLICK SEARCH ENGINES!Add more keywords to your various pay-per-click accounts. This is agreat way to make new content available, quickly. (You just have towait for keyword-approval by the pay-per-click administrators).Choose profitable keywords (high demand, low supply), identifiedwhen you began creating new content. But, as you pay for eachclick, it's important that you only get clicks from your potentialcustomers; so choose your keywords, title & description carefully.===== Big Side Bar =====Don't know what Pay-per-click search engines are? They are searchengines, like GoTo, that allow you to choose how highly your siteranks for a particular keyword. So you make a bid on a keyword. Andif your bid is highest, your site features highest on that searchengine's ranking, for that keyword. And for each click your listinggenerates, you pay the amount that you bid to the search engine.Pay-per-click search engines are proving to be an excellent way toget extra traffic. Especially when you consider that results fromGoTo, the main pay-per-click, feed into highly-placed sponsoredlinks on many of the major search engines.
