Oracle Content Management System - News & Articles

Some web critics (guides) became identified with specific applications - really, expert systems -which incorporate their knowledge and experience. Most volunteer-based directories (such as the "Open Directory" and the late "Go" directory) work this way. The flip side of the coin of content consumption is investment in content creation, marketing, distribution and maintenance. 3. The Money Where is the capital needed to finance content likely to come from? Again, there are two schools: According to the first, sites will be financed through advertising - and so will search engines and other applications accessed by users. Certain ASPs (Application Service Providers which rent out access to application software which resides on their servers) are considering this model. The recent collapse in online advertising rates and click-through rates raised serious doubts regarding the validity and viability of this model. Marketing gurus, such as Seth Godin went as far as declaring "interruption marketing" (=ads and banners) dead. The second approach is simpler and allows for the existence of non-commercial content. It proposes to collect negligible sums (cents or fractions of cents) from every user for every visit ("micro-payments"). These accumulated cents will enable the site-owners to update and to maintain them and encourage entrepreneurs to develop new content and invest in it. Certain content aggregators (especially of digital textbooks) have adopted this model (Questia, Fathom). The adherents of the first school point to the 5 million USD invested in advertising during 1995 and to the 60 million or so invested during 1996. Its opponents point exactly at the same numbers: ridiculously small when contrasted with more conventional advertising modes. The potential of advertising on the net is limited to 1.5 billion USD annually in 1998, thundered the pessimists. The actual figure was double the prediction but still woefully small and inadequate to support the internet's content development. Compare these figures to the sale of Internet software (4 billion), Internet hardware (3 billion), Internet access provision (4.2 billion in 1995 alone!). Even if online advertising were to be restored to its erstwhile glory days, other bottlenecks remain. Advertising encourages the consumer to interact and to initiate the delivery of a product to him. This - the delivery phase - is a slow and enervating epilogue to the exciting affair of ordering online. Too many consumers still complain of late delivery of the wrong or defective products. The solution may lie in the integration of advertising and content. The late Pointcast, for instance, integrated advertising into its news broadcasts, continuously streamed to the user's screen, even when inactive (it had an active screen saver and ticker in a "push technology"). Downloading of digital music, video and text (e-books) leads to the immediate gratification of consumers and increases the efficacy of advertising. Whatever the case may be, a uniform, agreed upon system of rating as a basis for charging advertisers, is sorely needed. There is also the question of what does the advertiser pay for? The rates of many advertisers (Procter and Gamble, for instance) are based not on the number of hits or impressions (=entries, visits to a site). - but on the number of the times that their advertisement was hit (page views), or clicked through. Finally, there is the paid subscription model - a flop to judge by the experience of the meagre number of sites of venerable and leading newspapers that are on a subscription basis. Dow Jones (Wall Street Journal) and The Economist. Only two. All this is not very promising. But one should never forget that the Internet is probably the closest thing we have to an efficient market. As consumers refuse to pay for content, investment will dry up and content will become scarce (through closures of web sites). As scarcity sets in, consumer may reconsider. Your article deals with the future of the Internet as a medium. Will it be able to support its content creation and distribution operations economically? If the Internet is a budding medium - then we should derive great benefit from a study of the history of its predecessors. The Future History of the Internet as a Medium The internet is simply the latest in a series of networks which revolutionized our lives. A century before the internet, the telegraph, the railways, the radio and the telephone have been similarly heralded as "global" and transforming. Every medium of communications goes through the same evolutionary cycle: Anarchy The Public Phase At this stage, the medium and the resources attached to it are very cheap, accessible, under no regulatory constraints. The public sector steps in : higher education institutions, religious institutions, government, not for profit organizations, non governmental organizations (NGOs), trade unions, etc. Be deviled by limited financial resources, they regard the new medium as a cost effective way of disseminating their messages. The Internet was not exempt from this phase which ended only a few years ago. It started with a complete computer anarchy manifested in ad hoc networks, local networks, networks of organizations (mainly universities and organs of the

Others substitute words, add sentences, or combine two or more sources. This raises the question: "when should content be considered original and when - plagiarized?". Should the test for plagiarism be more stringent than the one applied by the Copyright Office? And what rights are implicitly granted by the material's genuine authors or publishers once they place the content on the Internet? Is the Web a public domain and, if yes, to what extent? These questions are not easily answered. Consider reports generated by users from a database. Are these reports copyrighted - and if so, by whom - by the database compiler or by the user who defined the parameters, without which the reports in question would have never been generated? What about "fair use" of text and works of art? In the USA, the backlash against digital content piracy and plagiarism has reached preposterous legal, litigious and technological nadirs. Plagiarism.org has developed a statistics-based technology (the "Document Source Analysis") which creates a "digital fingerprint" of every document in its database. Web crawlers are then unleashed to scour the Internet and find documents with the same fingerprint and a colour-coded report is generated. An instructor, teacher, or professor can then use the report to prove plagiarism and cheating. Piracy is often considered to be a form of viral marketing (even by software developers and publishers). The author's, publisher's, or software house's data are preserved intact in the cracked copy. Pirated copies of e-books often contribute to increased sales of the print versions. Crippled versions of software or pirated copies of software without its manuals, updates and support - often lead to the purchase of a licence. Not so with plagiarism. The identities of the author, editor, publisher and illustrator are deleted and replaced by the details of the plagiarist. And while piracy is discussed freely and fought vigorously - the discussion of plagiarism is still taboo and actively suppressed by image-conscious and endowment-weary academic institutions and media. It is an uphill struggle but plagiarism.org has taken the first resolute step. Developing Free Content... It's not really as bad as it sounds!08/22/05
by Edward B. Toupin
I hear many writers refute the idea of writing free content. While I agree,in the simplest terms, it is "something for nothing", the benefits of freecontent actually outweigh the down-side of writing for free. Is it reallyfor nothing?--- The Battle for Content ---The competition for content is fierce. Every Web site owner wants contentand hundreds of writers want their content visible on the Web. There are somany free Web sites that you can literally advertise your goods, services, and knowledge globally for years without spending a penny.Of course, there is a cost involved in writing free content---time.However, the cost in time units is only a fraction of the money that wouldotherwise be spent in getting the kind of coverage available by supportingcontent sites with free articles.--- What about my income producing articles? ---The idea is not to spend all day writing free content. Generally, onceyou've completed your articles for paying markets, take an idea and generateone free content article. I usually select a topic about which I cangenerate an article in a few hours. Don't spend more than two hours on thearticle over an entire day---use it as a gap-filler.The point is to be able to generate a short article that provides a generaloverview of your knowledge or work---don't dive too deep. If someone likesyour work or idea, let them come to you and pay you for a more, in-depthversion. Call it "testing the waters."--- Exercise Your Brain ---One of the benefits I've found to writing free content is in exercising mybrain. I get a chance to generate a short article about somethin

What Can Lots Of Content Do For Your Site?08/22/05
by: Matt Colyer
Today there are so many web sites on the web, but so few of them have good content and there are even fewer web sites that have large amounts of content. Why is the web like this? For one most webmasters are trying to make a quick buck and others don't know where to begin or are too lazy to do the work.
Content really is king! Why? because visitors will stay longer or will come back more often and they are more likely to buy from your business. Visitors know you are an expert in your site's topic because you write informative articles, which leads the visitor to trust your business more. And to your visitors it's all about trust because if they can't trust your business, how can they trust the product/service you sale or how can they even know that they will receive the product/service.
Most of the time before an Internet surfer buys a product they will search the web to get more information about it. Sometimes they are just looking to see how it really works or maybe they want to know more about a certain feature. If you write articles about your products, surfers are more likely to find your web site in the search engine and you may even steal a few sales from your competitor, which will result in more sales for you!
Having a site with great an

I've been fortunate enough to reap strong benefits from posting articles to web sites including my own, and leveraging the right keyword phrases to deliver the content. As you do the same (or post other people's articles) and the search engines index your pages, you'll see more and more traffic coming to your site via that content. And, as your pages "settle in" to their positions in the search engines results pages, your site will be 'maturing', and that concept can be worth lots of money to you.As your site matures, you'll most likely 'cement' your pages in the search engine results pages as long as you have your articles posted on the deeper sites and optimize your articles. One big drawback to posting other people's articles is that you can't optimize them. Once you are bringing in a consistent steady stream of targeted traffic in to your site from search engines, it is relatively easy to add links and new content that will bring new sales. It is sort of like having a big list. Don't get me wrong, the traffic will help you build your list...what I am referring to is having a foundation to easily test and try new affiliate programs because you already have targeted traffic coming in...all you need to do at that point is to find relative products with solid affiliate programs. It's so much fun when you understand this concept. For most newbies, they never get it till its too late. One last item with regards to a mature site...make sure that you cross link properly and use ssi's (server side includes) if at all possible. The links on your pages that are present everywhere on your site will boost the pages this links point to.DO all you can make your site mature as fast as possible. Your business will be better off. Enjoy the search engine traffic! Fact is, fishings pretty good in Rising Creek just now."Back To The Message "Now get this. Phil says he's catching his limit every day in less than two hours. And they aren't minnows, either. He's got one he wants measured. Thinks he's got a record. Whatever, it's got size. Those who know Phil, know he doesn't lie. But here's the best part. The other guys aren't catching diddle. They're all over him asking what he's doing they aren't. Again, if you know Phil, he's not saying. But here's what he told me. He's using a BlueLine lure. He tried a FlatFish and did pretty good, but he swears the BlueLine is the trick here. If you've got the time, get on up to Triangle and let me know how you make out. Click here for info on a BlueLine lure. Click here for the FlatFish."An Aside Each of the above links is to a page picturing the lure indetail. There's a link below to a page that shows you how tomake one. And, of course, another that lets you buy one fromBill. And There's More. In a PS, Bill added, "Just now, the week's forecast looksawfully good. Click here for the latest." Take this link, andyou have a long term forecast for the weather at Triangle lake. And More Triangle is not the only lake Bill follows. And he has thiskind of info on all of them. And about the local streams. Further, he'll be happy to sell you a great fishing rod, wadingboots, cooking gear, even camping stuff.About That Fellow In New York James Bartell faces yet another major business crisis. Butreading Bill's newsletter gives him a thought. He calls to hissecretary, "Will you get Joe and Pete in here, please?" Grabbingfor the phone, he mumbles, "If they can't handle this, I'll findsomebody who can." Half way through the sentence, the phone isringing at Travel Desk.Bartell Is Not Alone Many people who bust it day in and day out are quite willing, now and then, to cut loose for a few days. Bill offers one greatway to do it. He gets a commission from Travel Desk. And fromthe local lodges he refers to. If he chooses to do so, he is in a great position to buy a lodge, thus extending his onlinebusiness offline. If he targets upscale fisherman like Bartell, such a move could be enormously profitable.End Tale Okay, so that's just a yarn. And hey, likely someone alreadyhas something like it going. But it's bound to be local, elseone can't keep up. Find a local area *not* being covered, oneeasy to get to, and go for it. The task is simpler if youalready know something of the area. But if you love fishing, you can have a lot of fun learning whatever you need.So Where's The Content? Measured in total words, there is very little content on thishypothetical site. But in the eyes of a devoted fisherman, it'sloaded with the stuff. Bill needs some good text content forsearch engine positioning, but that's another matter. What's Bill Really Selling? Will anybody visiting this site see it for what it really is? Have you figured it?What is readily available is great info that matters tofisherman. Behind this, Bill offers everything you need to getto a great fishing spot, catch your limit, and be comfortablewhile doing so. His visitors will not see this as a trick orcon. They may not even recognize the site is a selling tool. Products offered will be seen simply as an additional serviceBill provides.A Catch This is not the greatest example, for it's seasonal. You'dhave to do very well in order to take the rest of the year off. But it's a possibility. If you owned a lodge, you might pick up some off-season business from skiers and hunters. But I Don't Like Fishing Is that what I heard you say? If so, join the club. I don'teither. But the idea works in many areas and differing products. Competition is fierce in the travel business. But how about asite featuring weekend adventures for families or seniors orboth? House plans might work well with how-tos about remodelingand interior design.Home gardeners are a committed bunch. And there's lots ofpotential here for repeat business. Anything people love to dothat requires resources you can provide is a possible target. Each must be checked with care. Competition needs to beexamined in depth. And you must find a niche that sets you aboveor apart from all of it. But given a defined position and a goodbusiness plan, you have the basis for a successful onlinebusiness.Wrapping Up There are several errors in Bill's prose. Did you noticethem? If so, will they matter to a fellow who wants to catchsome fish? Or will he just grab his keys or the phone? About the AuthorBob McElwain Want to build a winning site? Improve one you alreadyhave? why wood you tak content like this seriusly? No mater how good the infomation, if is riddiled with typos its asta lavista baby. You lose.Typos, misspellings, hideous grammar, exclamation overkill and run-on sentences all undermine a Web site's message. Your reader will have to work too hard, and you won't have that reader long. Grabbing a reader's attention is a key point in getting your message out, but there is such a thing as too much grabbing--and the wrong kind of attention. Negative attention can lose a great many visitors and potential clients.Clean content and neat appearance are not merely a matter of aesthetics. It goes to the core of establishing trust and reliability between a Web site and visitor. Relate it to a deli. A potential customer heard about you through an ad. Cool ad, got his/her attention, so he/she stops by on the way home. On the outside everything looks nice, meets expectations, so the visitor walks in, looking for tonight's sandwich goodies. Once inside it only takes a few seconds to notice the dust on the shelves, the dirty footprints, the unidentifiable smudges on the glass counter-fronts. No matter how good the food smells, if the counterperson has dirty hands or there are papers littering the floor, how many people are going to feel comfortable reaching over a crumb-covered counter to pay for their dinner? That may sound like a silly comparison to Web content, but really, it's not so far off. The principle stands: clean, neat, appealing content builds comfort and trust. Sloppy, haphazard or distracting content repels, and breaks down credibility. And the principle is very easy to apply to all Web content. Flash Content Management System - News & Articles

It started with a complete computer anarchy manifested in ad hoc networks, local networks, networks of organizations (mainly universities and organs of the government such as DARPA, a part of the defence establishment, in the USA). Non commercial entities jumped on the bandwagon and started sewing these networks together (an activity fully subsidized by government funds). The result was a globe encompassing network of academic institutions. The American Pentagon established the network of all networks, the ARPANET. Other government departments joined the fray, headed by the National Science Foundation (NSF) which withdrew only lately from the Internet. The Internet (with a different name) became semi-public property - with access granted to the chosen few. Radio took precisely this course. Radio transmissions started in the USA in 1920. Those were anarchic broadcasts with no discernible regularity. Non commercial organizations and not for profit organizations began their own broadcasts and even created radio broadcasting infrastructure (albeit of the cheap and local kind) dedicated to their audiences. Trade unions, certain educational institution sand religious groups commenced "public radio" broadcasts. The Commercial Phase When the users (e.g., listeners in the case of the radio, or owners of PCs and modems in the case of the Internet) reach a critical mass - the business sector is alerted. In the name of capitalist ideology (another religion, really) it demands "privatization" of the medium. This harps on very sensitive strings in every Western soul: the efficient allocation of resources which is the result of competition. Corruption and inefficiency are intuitively associated with the public sector ("Other People's Money" - OPM). This, together with the ulterior motives of members of the ruling political echelons (the infamous American Paranoia), a lack of variety and of catering to the tastes and interests of certain audiences and the automatic equation of private enterprise with democracy lead to a privatization of the young medium. The end result is the same: the private sector takes over the medium from "below" (makes offers to the owners or operators of the medium that they cannot possibly refuse) - or from "above" (successful lobbying in the corridors of power leads to the appropriate legislation and the medium is "privatized"). Every privatization - especially that of a medium - provokes public opposition. There are (usually founded) suspicions that the interests of the public are compromised and sacrificed on the altar of commercialization and rating. Fears of monopolization and cartelization of the medium are evoked - and proven correct in due course. Otherwise, there is fear of the concentration of control of the medium in a few hands. All these things do happen - but the pace is so slow that the initial fears are forgotten and public attention reverts to fresher issues. A new Communications Act was enacted in the USA in 1934. It was meant to transform radio frequencies into a national resource to be sold to the private sector which was supposed to use it to transmit radio signals to receivers. In other words: the radio was passed on to private and commercial hands. Public radio was doomed to be marginalized. The American administration withdrew from its last major involvement in the Internet in April 1995, when the NSF ceased to finance some of the networks and, thus, privatized its hitherto heavy involvement in the net. A new Communications Act was legislated in 1996. It permitted "organized anarchy". It allowed media operators to invade each other's territories. Phone companies were allowed to transmit video and cable companies were allowed to transmit telephony, for instance. This was all phased over a long period of time - still, it was a revolution whose magnitude is difficult to gauge and whose consequences defy imagination. It carries an equally momentous price tag - official censorship. "Voluntary censorship", to be sure, somewhat toothless standardization and enforcement authorities, to be sure - still, a censorship with its own institutions to boot. The private sector reacted by threatening litigation - but, beneath the surface it is caving in to pressure and temptation, constructing its own censorship codes both in the cable and in the internet media. Institutionalization This phase is the next in the Internet's history, though, it seems, few realize it. It is characterized by enhanced activities of legislation. Legislators, on all levels, discover the medium and lurch at it passionately. Resources which were considered "free", suddenly are transformed to "national treasures not to be dispensed with cheaply, casually and with frivolity". It is conceivable that certain parts of the Internet will be "nationalized" (for instance, in the form of a licensing requirement) and tendered to the private sector. Legislation will be enacted which will deal with permitted and disallowed content (obscenity ? incitement ? racial or gender bias ?) No medium in the USA (not to mention the wide world)

Enterprise Content Management System - News & Articles

People are not going to sit there for an hour reading off of a computer screen, no matter how good the information is.2. Keep your content relevant to your site. Do not start putting unrelated content on your site. It will be confusing and wont help you draw customers into your site.3. Organize, organize, and oh yes organize. Keep everything organized. I dont know how many photography sites that Ive been on have these huge lists of how to articles, hundreds of them which is great, but they are completely unorganized and I guess they expect you to scroll down through all these articles to find what you want. So organize your content. Make it easy to find things. Whether thats through a search option or carefully organized subheadings. Make it easy for people to get what they need quickly.4. My site has grown steadily but more than I ever expected and that created a problem that I didnt foresee in the beginning. As you add content and I assume new pages be aware of where you place these pages in the grand scheme of your web design. Just dont add new pages to the bottom of list of links. As the web site grows the list of links to your other pages could be quite long so keep some sort of pattern of organization so that as you add pages it will seem to fit in with the rest.5. Out of date information. With all this content were all adding watch for out of date information. Remove content with information on technology that is not longer used. And cycle out old information that just isnt read or was not very popular. These are just a few things that Ive learned in designing for content on my site.If you have some specific questions please visit my Photography and Design Forum at: http://kellypaalphotography.com/v-web/bulletin/bb/index.php and post your question there. Keep the Content Fresh!08/17/05
by Jake Gorst
Sample-Widget-Company, Inc. spent several months and and somewhere around $90,000 developing their corporate web site. When the project was completed, they celebrated with an "all-hands" meeting, a stack of pizzas, and a press release that went out on the business wire.Care was also taken to make sure that their web site ranked high in search engines and could be found in several online direct

Content Management - News & Articles

Sometimes type must be rewritten, or at least a word or two added or deleted. Sometimes spacing must be taken out of the letters, words or lines. Perhaps widening or narrowing the margin just a tad will do it. But it must be done. Widows and orphans are tacky.A few other ideas.Dont be afraid of white space! (Its called white space irrespective of the colour of the background; it just means the space where there is no element displayed on the page). The area of the page that does not have text or graphics on it is just as important as the area that does. You may not be conscious of it, but your eyes are aware of it and how its affecting everything else on the page. Dont be afraid to have wide margins, empty space before or after a major heading, a short bit of copy tucked up in the upper left instead of spread out in the middle of the page. Thats one of the main differences between a clean, professional look and an amateur look. The professional is not afraid to leave plenty of white space!Strengthen the contrasts when combining fonts. Contrast with strength. If one font is light and airy, choose a dense black one to go with it. If one font is going to be used small, use the other one large.Make a conscious effort to be consistent. If a heading is aligned left, then align all headings left. If a heading is 18 point bold, then make all headings 18 point bold. If you have page numbers then they should all be on the same place on the page. Look for consistency in tabs, indents, punctuation, fonts, alignment, and margins. Hope you find this useful. What Can Lots Of Content Do For Your Site?08/17/05
by: Matt Colyer
Today there are so many web sites on the web, but so few of them have good content and there are even fewer web sites that have large amounts of content. Why is the web like this? For one most webmasters are trying to make a quick buck and others don't know where to begin or are too lazy to do the work.
Content really is king! Why? because visitors will stay longer or will come back more often and they are more likely to buy from your business. Visitors know you are an expert in your site's topic because you write informative articles, which leads the visitor to trust your business more. And to your visitors it's all about trust because if they can't trust y

Boost Your Website With Expert Content08/16/05
by Matt Colyer
The word has gotten out on website content. It has never really been a big secret, really: the only effective way to promote a website is by hosting unique, quality content. Search engine optimization and paid inclusions are a waste of time and money if there isn't a compelling reason for your visitors to come back once they have found you. Website sales only come from repeat visitors and user loyalty.A business built on expertise must be repres

Content Management Site Tool Vancouver Web - News & Articles

Build content that people will trust - unbiased material that directly involves your clients and their needs. Don't roll sales pitches into your articles. Be an advocate for your clients and their interests, and use that awareness to inform the subject matter you include on your website.Make it timely and researched. Information seekers hit the Web to find the latest, most specific answers to their questions. Don't post outdated or generic content. Make your content rich in accurate information, timely in scope, and authentically useful to Web users.Make it unique. Website content that can easily be found elsewhere is worse than useless, because it makes your business appear commoditized. Don't recite the same tired advice being given by all your competitors - host unique and specific material on subjects not being covered anywhere else on the Web. Use your background. Demonstrate that your practice is one of a kind, by hosting information that only you can provide.Make it well written. Your expert credibility can quickly be damaged by poor writing. Be aware of professional writing and publishing standards (found in the Chicago Manual of Style, available in any bookstore), and follow them. Hire a ghostwriter or professional editor if necessary to help make sure that your copy is clean and elegant. Never host any material that calls into question your intelligence or literacy.A website can build or destroy an expert reputation; the deciding factor is content quality. With the sheer amount of useless, outdated, poorly written material on the Web today, the average Web user is almost desperate for information that can be relied upon.Create an online resource that your clients value, and they will keep coming back - building your credibility, refining your market, and increasing your income. Profitable Content08/16/05
by: Syd Johnson
You can create profitable content in 2 hours or less
Everyone knows that the best way to get a high ranking on the search engines is to create a lot of keyword rich content. You can write the articles on your own--in fact, if you write one article per day, you will have over 300 articles by the end of the year.
Thats enough to get your high google page rank because of the sheer volume of pages, and because it is original and not recycled content. The search engines are attracted by the fresh content, and will send over more unique traffic to your website. More unique visitors will translate in more online sales.
So what are some quick techniques for generating content?
1. Publish your blog to your website.
If you are a regular blogger, use your ftp program to publish the content directly to a page on your site. Its a really quick way to add pages of extra content for your next search engine update. In addition to your own postings, there are comments from site visitors which help to boost the average page content to anywhere from a few hundred, to a few thousand new words added per day.As long as you have adequate incoming links, the search engines will find you, re-index the site and update accordingly.
2. Questions and Answers
As you get questions via email, create updated answers and put them on a few Q & A pages. You can also expand the questions and the answers to full length articles that you can post on your site, or post one of online article directories. One article on the right directory can give you hundreds and possibly thousands of new incoming links.
3. Edit Old copy
Take out some of your older articles.

Creating Content With Style - Part 108/16/05
by A.T.Rendon
You will need to write. Sooner or later we all have to write. With the advent of the computer, professional looking copy is easily available. Well sort of. You might think that using a word processor is like a using a typewriter. Wrong. Word processors and web design software allow us to use type setting features, and with some knowledge of typesetting you can create high-quality pages. This course lets you in on the secrets that professional typesetters have known for years. Many of the concepts presented in this course are subtle; but they add up to a professional look. When we look at a document, be it on paper or on a web page, we might not know exactly what gives it that look, but we are aware of viewing quality. With a little knowledge we can increase our awareness of what makes the work look professional. We can learn to look closer with a critical eye.Widows and Orphans The term is an old typographical term. When a paragraph ends and leaves less than seven characters on the last line (or a single word), that last line is called a widow. Worse than leaving one word there, is leaving part of a word, the other part being hyphenated on the line above.Widow example:A translation is not a translation, he said, unless it will give you the music of a poem along with the words ofit.An even worse widow:Can anything be more absurd than keeping a woman in a state ofignorance, and yet so vehemently to insist on their resisting tempt-ationWhen the last line of a paragraph wont fit at the bottom of a page (or column) and must end itself at the top of the next page or column, that is an orphan.Orphan example:It was the best of time, it was the worst of time, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was thespring of

Content Management J2ee - News & Articles

In other words, while some may compel our attention, many sitesfail to propel our actions, too. And their owners often scream,"Why is my site not producing any sales," "why is it so heavilytrafficked but getting such a poor response" or "why are peopleleaving so quickly (or after they got what they came for)?"Well, if content was king, copy should be the castle. The Internet is not a traditional medium in the broadcast sense. It is intimate, dynamic and interactive. People are more involvedwhen reading the content of a website than reading a conventionalprint publication or watching a TV commercial. With the Internet, people also have a powerful weapon, and they usually never thinktwice about using it when the need confronts them: their mouse. So, the idea is this: forget about writing content, at least inthe traditional sense. Think copy. Think content that compels thereader to do something, even if it's just to continue reading.According to Atomica.com, "copy" is defined as "the words to beprinted or spoken in an advertisement." (And "advertisement" isdefined as "a notice or announcement designed to attract publicpatronage." It's selling something, in other words.)But the word "content," on the other hand, is defined as "thesubject matter of a written work, such as a book or magazine."And keep in mind that there's no mention of the Internet, here.Nevertheless, this is why I submit that, with its multitude oflinks and hypertexts, the web transforms the passive reader intoan active, responsive participant. (Make that "response-able.")A book or magazine is limited by its front and back covers. Theweb, however, is not. If your content does not strive at gettingthe reader to do something, whether it's to buy, join, subscribe, call, email, fill out a form, download, click or whatever, thenyou need to seriously rethink your content and the words you use. Here's my explanation of the difference between content and copy.Content informs. Copy invites. Even if content invites readers tokeep reading, it's still selling an idea. It's still calling forsome kind of action. And it's still copy, in my opinion. If your web page is only meant to inform people, like some kindof book, it's content. (And like the closing of a book once it'sread, the only action left is to close the browser window.) Butif it contains links to other parts of your website, then it'scopy. And you need to write your content with that mindset.Ultimately, write your content by incorporating a direct responseformula that compels and propels your readers to act. Don't leavethem hanging. Take them by the hand. In your content, integrate acall for some kind of action, in other words. Ask your reader to"buy now," "join today," "get this" or "download that ..."... Or better yet, at least ask them to simply "click here." About the AuthorMichel Fortin is a copywriter, author and consultant dedicatedto turning businesses into powerful magnets. Great Content Versus Great Writing You do not need to be a Pulitzer-type writer to produce solidsite content. Those who disagree, are generally good writers. Thus they tend to believe great site content is great prose. This is stuff and nonsense. True, the easiest and most straightforward way to build greatcontent is to create quality prose. But it's far from being theonly way. For example, a site loaded with "how to" informationwill do fine, provided enough people want what is offered. Andin writing this kind of content, the focus is on clearexplanation, not grammar. Here's another example. An Aside About Fishing My fishing experience amounts to having been with somefellows upon three occasions who were doing so. All I rememberabout the ocean trip is being seasick. Another time I walked theperimeter of a small lake twice with a neat fellow moreinterested in walking than fishing. The only pro I've met was a fellow with a fly rod. He caught his limit in minimal time in a stream rod & reel types claimed was "fished out." This makes me uniquely qualified to define a site of great interest to fisherman. What follows is all made up. Any resemblanceto truth about fishing is pure coincidence. Let's Go Fishing Bill, who owns FishNow.Com, got a call from Phil, made somenotes, and immediately wrote the following, sent it out in hisnewsletter, and posted it on his site. "Bill here, with a neat update from Phil Randal who just called. (You probably remember him from our Caught 'Em forum. He knows what he's about.) Just now he's at Triangle lake. It's great country and even better fishing. It's about 20 miles east of Kramer's Junction on Hy 145. To get there, take the dirt road that starts behind Kelly's Feedstore. Takes maybe 40 minutes, and you don't need four-wheel. (Click here for a map you can print. I've marked the route.)" An Aside: The map is a GIF copy of an actual map on whichBill has sketched the route. Throughout he's added text like,"Stream here; drive right through it." And below the map is alink. "If you're short of time, check with the Travel Desk. They'll arrange to pick you up and put you beside Triangle lakein quick time. And the rates are the best I've seen." "They've got a room at the lodge at Rising Creek cometomorrow if you want. And a cabin this weekend. You can get from there to Triangle on horseback in about four hours. Or Jake can run you up in his Land Rover in about an hour and a half. Fact is, fishings pretty good in Rising Creek just now."Back To The Message "Now get this. Phil says he's catching his limit every day in less than two hours. And they aren't minnows, either. He's got one he wants measured. Thinks he's got a record. Whatever, it's got size. Those who know Phil, know he do

(Free Sites, for example, get most of their traffic fromone such resource: The Free Site - http://www.thefreesite.com ) 7: WRITE AN ARTICLEWriting an article (like this one) is a great way to promote yournew content. There are so many sites willing to accept articles, and so many editors willing to publish them in their newsletters.Just write about your new content (but not about your site), makingit interesting and informative to a general audience. Then, in theauthor-byline, refer to your new content, and provide a link to it.For example, I found a great site, Find Sticky, just from readingan interesting article about sticky content, written by the site'swebmaster. I enjoyed the article and checked the author bylines tosee who wrote it, then visited his site - http://www.findsticky.com===== Side Bar =====Don't know how to write an article? Just write about what youactually do, and the sites that you visit. Then read a few goodarticles on 'how to write an article', and compose away! It *isn't*difficult, and it can be very rewarding (not least because of thecontacts you make with those that actually publish your articles!)===== Side Bar =====The following sites accept free articles for publication:http://www.ezinearticles.comhttp://www.ideamarketers.comhttp://www.marketing-seek.comhttp://www.certificate.nethttp://www.web-source.nethttp://www.theukmarketer.comhttp://www.MakingProfit.com/articles 8: GET VIRALViral marketing is that elusive creature that can literally,*literally* create a STAMPEDE of traffic to your site; just on thecontinued recommendation of others. Think Am-I-Hot-or-Not? orHotmail or Hampsterdance or ICQ or Napster...!So how do you go achieve viral marketing?Simple! Come up with a completely original, innovative, easy-to-use, easy-to-talk-about Wow!-of-a website... ORTry one of these more common easier-to-achieve approaches: - allow visitors to create virtual greeting cards on your site - create free ebooks that include content (or articles) from your site, and then heavily promote the free ebooks - put free e-mail on your site - put 'recommend-this-site' links on your site - etceteraBack to the article from Find Sticky. I actually found that articlein a newsfeed from Moreover! It seems that if you write articles ona weekly basis, then it's possible to get your articles syndicatedvia Moreover. So, with no effort from you (apart from writingregular articles) you can get a link to your site (and yourarticle) on hundreds, even thousands of other websites!http://w.moreover.com/si
